With retail constantly changing and especially in the current financial climate, we need to have the capacity to change with it. One of our recent clients, a large newsagency chain asked us to work with them to realise some of their ideas and introduce some of our own.
The goal was to achieve increased turnover in four main area’s i.e. confectionery, greeting cards, magazine and newspapers, stationery and some ancillary products. We produce nearly all of the greeting card standards nationwide and had been working on some new designs. Confectionery was a little more difficult. We worked together to deliver concepts on these areas. We introduced our new 20 tier card unit which cut this client’s run of cards from 18 linear metres to 8.5 metres without losing a single facing. This had a huge knock-on effect around the retail space. With this addition of space, we were able to increase the areas of magazines and papers, stationery, books, wines, gifts and special offers and the client has now gained substantial increase in trade in these areas.
We took the radical decision, against the advice of the confectionery suppliers, to take all confectionery off the counter and placed it against the adjacent wall, thus creating the feel of a shop within a shop. This decision has achieved a 30% increase in sales and sales are still rising.
